Bluebonnet  Patchwork Trail Shop Hop 2012 is just a few weeks away, April 12-15.  Maybe this year we will actually have bluebonnets to enjoy along our Texas highways.  Aren’t we thankful for the wonderful rain we are still receiving.  If you have not purchased your fat 1/8 of the brown dot fabric, it is not to late.  This is the chosen fabric to make the Challenge Blocks that will be incorporated into quilts for children of warriors  from Fort Hood.  The blocks need to be child like and cheerful, 12-1/2″ unfinished.  They will be judged and nice prizes awarded.  The block fabric and entry may be purchased for only $2 and returned to the shop before Tuesday, March 27 to be judged the next day.

Most of the classes will have a list of supplies which you will be given at the time you sign up and pay a $5.00 NON REFUNDABLE deposit.  That will be applied to your class fee.  We are having too many folks sign up for a class and then not show up which many times keeps someone else from being able to participate. We understand unexpected things come up, if you cancel at least 2 days before the class or have an extreme emergency happen, all but $5.00 will be refunded. Your place will be reserved with $5.00 with the remainder of the class fee due before the day of the class.  This can be done by phone or in person. You may put your name down without the deposit, but if someone else pays the deposit and the class is full, then you may be left out. Thank you for understanding this new rule, we want to be fair to everyone, including the teacher leading the class.  90% of the class fee is paid to the instructor.

FYI we are excited to tell you CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS fabric will be in the store in June.  Most of us or we have children who have grown up with Peanuts!  The fabric is wonderful.  Kits will be made and a soon as we have a picture of the quilt we will show you.  Reservations for kits will be taken.  Don’t miss out on this!

Beautiful blue and white  fabric came in this week!  Also Barbara Brackman’s Battle Hymn of the Republic from Moda just made appearance in Seventh Heaven Friday.  It is very nice to go with your 1800′s collections.  About 40 bolts of this great reproduction fabric.  New Kaffe Fassett prints along with his new book Quilts of Sweden.  New books and  patterns are also in to tempt you to start a new project.

Book Club is next week, Thursday, Jan. 12 or Saturday, Jan. 14.  You still have time to get that block made to get your next one FREE!

Just a reminder SHQS will close a little early Friday (4:00) and closed Dec. 24, 25 & 26 to celebrate Christ’s birthday with our families.  I wish all of you a wonderful blessed Christmas season.

Dixie presented  Georgeanne Wertheim  a check for $1500 collected through Book Club fines to benefit Perinatel Support Group serving several San Antonio hospitals. Memory Boxes are hand painted for parents who have lost an infant at or before birth.   These lovely boxes  contain hand and/or foot prints, locks of hair, poems,  prayers, information on Support Groups, tiny baby bracles and little bears and other items  to help them cope with the loss of their precious angel.

Also pictured is Millie Moczygemba, a nurses who not only works in the delivery area of one of the hospitals, but also helps with the projects.   The volunteers will meet again January 4 at Georgeanne’s studio.  You do not have to be an artist to contribute.  If you are interested in being a volunteer in this effort, you may contact SHQS for Georgeanne’s phone number.

BREAD AND BUTTER SOCIETY – Beginning in January, every other month, Month 1 – Peanut Butter Bars 13×19 and Jelly Stars 23×23.  $29.  Session II Acron Squashg table runner 22×60 – $30, Session III – Fruit Chutney 44×50.  Sessions IV V  and VI price has not be figured yet.  You will commit  to all 6 sessions.  The fabric and patterns are from Kaye England manufactured by Wilimington Fabrics.  These are great learning projects.

2011 is almost gone.  What better way to start a brand new year than by worshiping in the church of your choice on January 1, 2012.  Therefore since I too reserve Sundays for family and worship, our big New Year’s Day SALE will be on Saturday, December 31, New Year’s Eve!  You will get more info in a few days, just want you to plan ahead.  We will still serve our famous blackeye peas – eating them a day early might bring you extra good luck!

Houston Quilt Festival bus riders with SH buses remember to be at Alamo Heights Methodist Church on East Basse by 6:15 am either Thursday or Saturday  Nov. 3 or 5.  Both busses are filled at this time.  We have several on the wait list so do not show up if you are not already paid up for the bus.  We will give you your festival ticket on the bus.  Please call the shop if you have any questions.

Just received this week!  Jo Morton’s new book Prairie Flowers Revisited.  Very nice simple applique blocks.  Quite doable especially if you have taken Jacque’s glue stick applique class or easy enough for fusible machine applique.

New fabric from Marcus “French Dress” beautiful blue and brown;  Amy Butler “Lark” complete fabric line has also arrived this week!   Moda’s new Nursery Rhyme fabric with Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Bean Stalk, Little Red Riding Hood, etc. is too cute!  We need to keep these stories in our little one’s minds.    Come in and check out all of these new arrivals.
